AD-LIB
AD-INFINITUM

A small group of members gathered on May 16th to discover that a studio evening had been organised. Keith Palmer had gone to some lengths to provide the equipment for what turned out to be a very entertaining evening. Les Loveday, Ken Kendal and myself set our own cameras at different angles to capture the action.

The Crew
In turn these were linked via cables to a Videonics mixer and their output shown through to a bank three black and white borrowed monitors. A further two television/monitors were set up for the mixer console and to see the resulting edited material recording onto a VCR.

JOHN GOLLOP AT THE MIXER

A microphone was lashed to the end of a mono-pod (acting as a boom mike) and plugged into one of the cameras. This was used as the only sound source. Ken provided the lighting once again and after what seemed ages setting up all the equipment we were ready to start filming, a simple sketch. The sketch involved a pensioner picking up his weekly pension from his local post office. Some very realistic fake £20 notes and sheets of postage stamps were provided which had us all agog.

John Gollop and Ron Everitt took turns at the mixer and Bob Hayward spent the entire evening holding the (boom) microphone.
Jack Ligertwood, John Ellis and Dennis Fox volunteered to do some acting. The unwritten script called for only a small number of words to be spoken by the participants but after a few takes they started to ad-lib like mad and it was all the rest of us could do to stifle our laughter. I think everyone enjoyed the evening including the onlookers for what was not a very serious attempt at a completely new aspect of film making for most of us.
Great fun and thanks very much to Keith for all the work involved.
