SPECIAL DELIVERY

Special Delivery

June 4th - our Studio Evening. Budding Directors/Film-Makers were invited to come along to film a sketch put on for us by friends of Byron Needham. They are all members of “Group 10” which is celebrating the 30th of its formation. Their previous experience of acting in pantomimes no doubt helped them survive the evening!
The 2 minute sketch was called “Special Delivery.” When I tell you that the cast consisted of; Simon, playing the husband, Gideon, the milkman, Janette, the midwife and Diana, the Gypsy, you can have a guess at the story but I will say no more as all will be revealed at a later date!
After a slow start when we all tried to work out how best to tackle the filming and to make the various bits of equipment behave, (microphone on a long boom made and bought along by Diggie, monitors and lighting etc. provided by Byron). And after an excellent reviving cup provided by our new tea/coffee maker, Michael, the evening went with a swing. The cast very patiently fell in with our directions; it not being necessary to “project to the back of the back of the theatre” and it being very necessary not to walk out of the picture. Yes, we had actually brought our tripods along!
The cast performed “Special Delivery” for us five times so that everyone who wanted to, could do some filming. It’s nice to be able to try different angles but I expect that most of us, when viewing the results at home, wished that we could have done it again, and chosen yet another angle. However we all appreciated the luxury of being able to film the subject over and over again because with most amateur filming you usually get only the one chance, if you are lucky!
I hope everyone enjoyed the experience as much as I did and hope that we can do something similar again some time. Oh yes, that later date, We are hoping to show the results of our efforts sometime in September.
