STRANGER IN THE HOUSE.
NORTH v SOUTH
- Judges Comments.

This is a familiar plot, but here it was done with a lot of skill. Excellent lighting and photography, some very good angles chosen. The effect of the wineglass moving on the board couldn't have been better. Very well directed and acted and well scripted although the editing could have been a little tighter. The music chosen enhanced the atmosphere. The competition theme STRANGERS only just about worked but never mind you have a good quality movie here.

"I particularly liked the top shot of the seance sequence."

A well told ghost story in a familiar format, this film was nicely directed and edited. The camera work also was very good and I particularly liked the top shot of the seance sequence. The interior lighting was good and I thought the exterior shots in the dark came off very well. Although things appeared and disappeared off tables etc. didn’t feel that tension and suspense were well enough built-up and this is where scripting, directing and editing can make all the difference so more attention

to these skills would be well worth the effort of the production team. Also of course the acting – but this again is the director’s Job if they (the performers) are not getting the result you (the director) want! Sound track was generally good although a little mushy here and there. On the whole a well constructed film which lived up to this year’s competition theme of “Strangers”.
Rosalind A.H.Howe.

Story line fell within the theme of Strangers. The end lost some of its impact with a confused voiceover dialogue so viewer unaware of the point being made. Could have been much tighter edited getting rid of some of the “dead spots". Sound could also have been improved in similar places. Generally quite good acting and photography.

Stranger in the House

"Generally quite good acting and photography."

This movie had a well-written script - until the end! The seance sequence was very well composed, shot and lit. Unfortunately the point of the ending was missed? Did we see the ghosts of the previous owners as the next inhabitants took over? A pity, as the early characters were well selected and spoke clearly.
Colin Pain.
